New Year, New Brand, New Focus

Service Design in Education

This year, we aim to keep you up to date with everything we are doing through SDinED Diaries.

New Year

Just like everyone, with a new year, we wanted to take the time to reflect and reset. The perfect opportunity to practice what we preach and co-design what the future of the Service Design in Education Network looks like.

Last year, we spent a lot of time DOING. 2020 was a massive learning curve for everyone, in ways that no one could have ever imagined. The nature of 2020 gave us a platform to grow, in strength, numbers and confidence. We hosted in-person and online events, we partnered with the Service Design Academy, we launched EduJam UK and our Committee doubled!

A successful year all round.

SDinED Committee

To kickstart 2021, the SDinED committee (Katie, Radka, Jean, Sonia, Ahrian and Tobi) met to plan for the year ahead. We used a Team Canvas to collaboratively focus on what our goals, main purpose and values are for successfully working together. We took the time to allocate roles and responsibilities for a more streamlined approach to working remotely.

To decide on roles and responsibilities for the committee members, we focussed on playing to our own strengths but also looking to challenge ourselves, taking a ‘rota’ approach to different roles to continue to learn from this adventure and each other.

New Brand

With the new year, comes a new brand. We are lucky to have Ahrian on the committee, who has revamped our brand, logo and website for a sleek new look.

New Focus

Connection

The main focus for us this year is to strengthen the connection with our network. With over 200 subscribers, we want to create a more supportive network of members. Being part of a network and a community, where we could share and learn from each other to grow confidence, spark curiosity and build service design awareness in education has always been at our heart, our main goal and focus.

We will be taking the time to ask ourselves and our network, what does a network mean? What does being a member mean? Watch this space! We will be starting a user research project to help us discover what our members what and need. Get in touch if you would like to be involved!

Thinks and Drinks

This year, we are launching our new monthly Thinks and Drinks Series. On the 18th of each month, we will host an online get together with a themed focus. This month, we start with looking at Design Journeys featuring the Business Enhancement Team from Middlesex University and Anonymous Lobster.

February will be Thinks and Drinks: Enterprise and Design. You can find out more details about our guest speakers and register for free tickets here.

EduJam 2021

It’s confirmed. There will be an EduJam UK 2021. If you have not yet had the chance to delve into the Treasure Trove from EduJam 2020, you are in for a treat! You can access everything from last year here.

Celebrate Success

Finally, and maybe most importantly, we will be taking the time to record, write up, analyse, synthesise and evaluate our work and impact going forward. We want to start thinking about measurement of success and what that looks like for us. We agreed to come up with a refreshed personalised version of a business model canvas to formulate “our plan” to bravely and boldly tackle 2021 with energy and enthusiasm.
